This Fondation IPSEN Colloque Médecine et Recherche was devoted to the interface between the complexity of brain organization and function, the mechanisms for generating diversity and genetic mobility. The goal was to expand the current limits of research in neurobiology not only to the benefit of those interested in the cellular and molecular processes but also for the understanding of high-level cognitive functions and the understanding of complex mental diseases.

Through an investigation of the nucleocapsid protein of the AIDS virus, this book illustrates how a small disordered basic viral protein controls virus structure, replication and genetic variability. It also highlights novel concepts indicating that proteins devoid of a defined 3D structure can have many different roles as mediated by a series of molecular interactions with RNA molecules, and, as such, behave as molecular adaptors.

Human Retrotransposons In Health And Disease written by Gael Cristofari and has been published by Springer this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2017-01-06 with Medical categories.

This unique book explores the role of retrotransposons in human health and disease. The ability of retrotransposons to affect the structure of human genes is recognized since the late 80’s. However, the advances of deep-sequencing technologies have shed new light on the extent of retrotransposon-mediated genome variations. These progresses have also led to the discovery that retrotransposon activity is not restricted to the germline - resulting in inheritable genetic variations - but can also mobilize in somatic tissues, such as embryonic stem cells, neuronal progenitor cells, or in many cancers. This book covers topics related to the effects of retrotransposon insertions, and their consequences on germline and somatic genome dynamics, but also discuss the role and impact of retrotransposons sequences in a broader context, including a number of novel topics that emerged recently (long non-coding RNA, neuronal disorders, exaptation) with unexpected connections between retrotransposons, stem cell maintenance, placentation, circadian cycles or aging.
